Is content strategy really a new thing? Isn't it just copywriting with a fancy name?

And who are these mysterious "content strategists"? What do they do all day?

Above all... why should we care?

Join us on 22 September 2010 for the answers to these and other tricky questions.

Talks will be light, but informative.

Kerry-Anne Gilowey, Content Strategist and owner of August Sun Projects, will give us an overview of what content strategy is, and how the field is developing across the world. She'll also answer the "What do they do all day?" question, with examples from her own glamorous and fast-paced life (more fast-paced than glamorous, if we're honest).

Rian van der Merwe, UX Product Manager at Yola.com, will talk about the importance of content strategy from a user experience perspective. He'll thrill us with amusing anecdotes and harrowing tales from his previous job at eBay in Silicon Valley, where he was surrounded on all sides by cunning content strategists. In particular, he'll show us how they achieved actual, measurable results by taking a smart approach to content.

Dinner will be well-priced, but delicious.

The folks at Da Capo have put together a superb menu for us. For a mere R126.50 (excluding tip), payable on the evening, you will get:

  • Welcome drink upon arrival
  • Starter
Three spring rolls filled with mushrooms and blue cheese/marinated ostrich/feta-chorizo mix

OR

Potato and spinach soup served with spicy bacon and croutons
  • Main course
Beef stew - topside beef cooked to perfection along with assorted vegetables, served with home-made kroketten

OR

Pollo piccata - chicken breast fillet seasoned and pan-seared to perfection, covered in a caper, lemon, shallot and white wine sauce, served with roasted potato wedges and fresh summer vegetables

OR

Butternut lasagne - twice-baked rosemary-infused butternut chunks, layered with creamy sauce and hand-made pasta sheets, topped with wild rocket and parmigiano cheese
  • Dessert
Home-made apple tart, served warm with vanilla ice cream

OR

Amarula tiramisu - an age-old Italian recipe with a twist

That's right. Three courses for R126.50. So basically, even if you don't give two figs about content strategy, you could just come along for the meal and still win. Which brings us to the next question...

Who should come along?

  • copywriters and communications specialists
  • marketers and PR people
  • web designers, information architects and UX practitioners
  • journalists, editors and media strategists
  • brand strategists and digital strategists
  • you, if the creation of engaging and effective content matters to you

In years to come, when your grandchildren ask where you were on the night of that very first Cape Town Content Strategy Meetup, what will you tell them?
